Kerala Chicken Curry

This is a typical Christian Chicken curry. I like its taste very much especially when my mom and aunt cook. This will go with rice, appam, chappathi, kerala paratha, idiapam, pathiri etc...



Ingredients:

Chicken – 1 kg
Onion – 3 nos.
Button onions – 10 – 12 nos.
Mustard seeds – 1 table spoon
Garlic – I pod
Ginger – 1 small piece
Green chilly – 3 nos
Tomato – 2 nos
Garam masala – 1 table spoon
Chilli powder – 1 table spoon
Coriander powder – 2 table spoon
Turmeric powder – 1 tea spoon
Curry leaves
Salt – as required

Preparation:
Remove skin and cut chicken into medium size pieces. Wash with little lime juice or vinegar to remove chickens smell, drain and keep it aside. Cut the big onions into thin slices. Grind garlic, small onion, ginger and green chilies together. Grind  tomatoes.
Heat Oil in a Wok. Splutter mustard seeds. Add onion slices and sauté well. When it becomes golden brown colour, add onion – ginger paste and Curry leaves. Sauté well.  Then add ground tomatoes. Sauté well. When the oil appears in the sides, add the masala one b one and stir well for few minutes. Then add chicken pieces and salt. Stir well. Cover the wok with a lid. Allow to cook in a low flame. Stir occasionally. When the chicken pieced cooked, serve it hot.
*If you need a gravy, add 1 cup coconut milk and Stir well. Allow to boil.
